Imported car insurance news: The first changes to the way in which insurance premiums are calculated in relation to risk assessment will have a negative impact on drivers of expensive imported 4x4s, it has been revealed.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is set to announce details of the new scheme today, with drivers of low-risk vehicles set to benefit from the updated assessments. But motorists looking for imported 4x4 vehicles are likely to suffer from the changes.
Outlining the way in which risk levels will be recalculated, the ABI said that assessment would shift from focusing solely on 0-60 acceleration and top speeds to encompass characteristics such as weight and potential impact ramifications, according to thisismoney.co.uk.
"Examples are certain 4x4s that, although sustaining little damage themselves in a collision, can inflict considerable injury/damage to others," thisismoney quoted the association as revealing.
Motorists searching for the likes of Toyota import car insurance are set to be affected as a result of the changes. The move is further bad news for the 4x4 giant after it recently came third bottom in a worldwide study of vehicle reliability.
