Imported car insurance news: The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has revealed that a recent pilot scheme to improve road safety found that international vehicles and imported cars were proportionally involved in more accidents than domestic cars.
An increasing number of foreign or imported vehicles on the roads in the UK were not conforming to accepted safety standards, the FTA revealed.
Such cases could see imported car insurance premiums rising, as FTA officials urged the government to tackle the issue.
"There is continuing concern throughout our membership about the growing number of foreign vehicles on our roads and the impact they are having on road safety," said FTA chief executive Richard Turner.
"I have written to the Treasury again expressing the firm expectation of my members that the commitment on enforcement will be delivered with increasing intensity this year and beyond, and that appropriate monies should be made available for the purpose," he added.
Separate FTA research revealed that the number of cars imported into the EU had increased by 6.2 per cent according to latest year-on-year figures.
