Convicted Driver / Drivers with Accidents - Car insurance fraud on the rise

Car insurance fraud on the rise

Convicted driver insurance news: Growing connections between car insurance fraud and criminal gangs are contributing to a rise in premiums, it has been suggested.

Direct Line has advised that a number of groups are now targeting the sector as a means to profit from insurance claims, and also revealed that even motorists who are usually law-abiding are following suit.

An increasing number of everyday drivers are filing false claims, Direct Line advises, with fraud rings' tactics of taking out multiple policies on a vehicle before crashing it also becoming more prevalent.

"They may crash into an 'associate's' car and then they lie and say the car had passengers in it which also claim for costs," said a spokesperson for the firm.

Such fraudulent activity is likely to impact on drivers seeking a convicted driver insurance quote, as an increase in accidents is likely to make the industry look less favourably upon motorists with a history of driving offences.

The Insurance Fraud Bureau recently revealed that over 22,000 staged accidents have taken place in the UK since 1999.
