Car insurance for convicted drivers may be needed after Barbie ban

A man who decided to drive drunk in a toy car has been banned from the road for three years.

Paul Hutton, 40, of Clacton-on-Sea in Essex, was in a four-foot battery-powered Barbie vehicle he had modified with bigger wheels.

Police pulled him over and a very slow chase ensued. The car can only reach a top speed of four miles per hour.

Hutton, who is a former RAF aeronautical engineer, said he had tweaked the car with his eldest son after finding it abandoned.

But at twice the legal drink-drive limit, he was given a ban. Car insurance for convicted drivers might be the first thing he shops for when the three-year period is over.

"I'm not unhappy with my punishment, just a little surprised," he said, going on to add he was a "complete twit".

Drivers who tot up 12 penalty points will find themselves banned from the road, although high premiums are likely to be incurred by anyone who has prior convictions.
