Charity calls for change to drink-drive laws

Research from Brake and roadside rescue company Green Flag states 59 per cent of male drivers and 42 per cent of female drivers drink and drive, indicating the gender gap is getting narrower.
Brake also said the number of women convicted of drink-driving is increasing despite them being less likely to be breathalysed.
The current limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The charity wants this to be reduced to 20mg and for drivers to be informed that any alcohol impairs driving ability.
European Union recommendations put the limit at 50mg while countries including Norway and Poland set drink-drive limits at 20mg per 100ml of blood.
Although speeding was the charge for television presenter Anne Robinson, her driving ban last month brought the issue of female convicted drivers to national attention.
