Classic car insurance news: Over 40 per cent of car owners leave valuable objects on display in their cars, prompting a surge in smash and grab thefts, according to research from RAC Auto Windscreens.
Only 16 per cent of drivers lock their valuables out of sight in boots or safes, which means that other customers are disqualifying themselves from insurance coverage for smash and grab.
And as more cars carry expensive electronic equipment like satellite navigation systems, laptops and iPods, stealing from cars can have huge financial incentives for thieves.
Spokesperson Adam Cracknell commented: "We are urging all UK motorists to take better care of their valuables by putting them in an in-car safe or locking them in the boot."
"The problem is that motorists are not only enticing thieves to their cars by leaving valuables on display, but they also stand to miss out on being able to make an insurance claim if they have not secured their valuables."
