Drivers looking to take their vintage vehicle for a spin this winter may want to ensure the oil they are using is the correct type for their engine to avoid having to make a claim on their classic car insurance.
Lubricant manufacturer Shell UK is urging drivers to look ahead and make sure that they do not leave checking up on their oil to the last minute.
According to the firm, using the wrong oil could damage the engine – potentially resulting in a classic car insurance claim.
"Oil can be one of the last things people consider but it is one of the areas where getting things right can save you money by helping to increase your fuel economy and reduce the hassle of downtime," said Les Dash, Shell's technical manager for transport lubricants in the UK and Ireland.
He added that having the right oil could mean that vehicles spend less time in the workshop during the winter period.
