Classic Car Insurance - In-car mobile use driven by women

In-car mobile use driven by women

New research has shown that women are more likely than men to use their mobiles while driving, and thus risk increased car insurance premiums.

Premium increases on both standard and classic car insurance have in part been down to the growing number of accidents being caused by motorists using mobile phones while driving, with a Halfords survey revealing that this is often down to women rather than men.

The study reveals that 31 per cent of women admitted to using a phone in the normal fashion while driving, compared to 20 per cent of men.

Furthermore, over 90 per cent of women said they carried a phone in the car with them, in part for security reasons.

Insurance for all types of vehicle has in recent times been affected by accidents involving drivers distracted in this way, leading to the recent announcement of new, harsher legislation regarding mobile phone usage while driving.

However, the survey also revealed that the number of people poised to change to hands-free mobiles – a difficult move to implement for classic car drivers – would more than double after the new laws come into place later this month, raising hopes of reductions in both accidents and insurance costs.
