Classic Car Insurance - Re-launch for Atalanta Sports Tourer

Re-launch for Atalanta Sports Tourer

Luxury car enthusiasts may be pleased to learn that the British-made Atalanta Sports Tourer is set to be relaunched, 75 years to the day that the company first began trading.

Set to take place on March 5th this year, the firm is being revived with the aim of delivering luxury cars for the future, as well as restoring a lost part of the UK's motoring heritage.

Martyn Corfield, a Staffordshire-based motoring enthusiast, commented: "As custodian of the Atalanta marque it is my objective to sensitively bring the original Atalanta design and function up to date, delivering the most basic of modern motoring needs whilst remaining true in spirit to the Atalanta sports car ideal."

The company only ran from 1937 to 1939 and was based in Staines, Middlesex, but during its short lifespan it was innovative in the way in which it offered vehicles with complete fibreglass body kits in order to reduce weight and boost performance.

"Atalanta is one the greatest untold British Motoring heritage stories. The cars and the team that delivered the original concept were so ahead of their time. What might have been had the war not interrupted development?" Mr Corfield added.

Set to incorporate modern materials and manufacturing techniques, the development of the new Atalanta Sports Tourer will give a nod to the history of the company, while ensuring it takes its place among the fine luxury car manufacturers of today.

Mr Corfield has revived the original design of the vehicle and will be showcasing a pre-production prototype of the car at the Royal Automobile Club, with attendance set to be by invitation only.

A truly unique motoring brand that was cut off in its prime, Atalanta could soon take its place among the motoring elite once more - especially if Mr Corfield has his way.
