This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed is set to be a landmark event, as its organiser will be celebrating two important anniversaries.
Set to run from June 28th to July 1st, the event is an annual showcase of some of the finest - and fastest - prestige and luxury sportscars in the world and 2012 is to be no exception.
Known for being one of the largest motoring garden parties in the world, visitors are treated to the spectacle of every type of car imaginable, with classic sports coupes from the 1950s and 1960s, all the way through to top Formula 1 cars from recent seasons.
This year however, the event is something special, as it is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Can-Am season - where McLaren, Porsche, Shadow and Lola, Ferrari, Matra and Alfa Romeo were locked in a stunning battle for supremacy in motorsport.
Across Europe and the US a fierce battle between technical sophistication and raw power was being played out, with 2012 set to highlight the unique mark this iconic season had on motorsport and those who love it.
Furthermore, 2012 is to be the 30th anniversary of the exciting Group C era of racing cars, which were launched in 1982, and as tribute to these wonderful vehicles, examples from Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes, Toyota, Nissan, Aston Martin, Lancia and Peugeot are all set to be on display for fans.
The organisers noted: "As well as a stunning sight in the festival paddock, these cars are sure to be among the fastest up the famous Goodwood Hill, with many in the running for fastest time of the weekend."
Goodwood Festival of Speed is held in the town of Goodwood, which itself can be found just outside Chichester, approximately 60 miles from the capital.
