Vintage vehicle owners keen to protect their cheap classic car insurance premiums may welcome calls for drivers to take more responsibility for improving road safety in Britain.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists expressed satisfaction with recent statistics released by the Department for Transport (DfT) that showed traffic accident casualties and fatalities dropped last year.
However, it added it was important to keep improving the country's record in this area and suggested members of the public could not expect the authorities to do all the work.
Director of policy and research Neil Greig explained: "The challenge for the government is to provide a safe ... road network and for motorists to take more responsibility for their safety by treating driving as a skill for life."
The figures provided by DfT revealed the number of people killed in traffic collisions in the UK in 2008 fell 14 per cent, compared with the previous year.
Meanwhile, antique auto owners who have managed to avoid an accident for some years may find they can secure a cheap deal on insurance online.
