Motorists who would expect their classic car insurance provider to pay out if they were involved in an accident need to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has claimed.
Graeme Trudgill from the group said people should be aware in the event of a crash, "if your vehicle is in a dangerous condition, if it hasn't got an MOT and things like that, questions will be asked".
He pointed out making sure a car was in top condition was particularly important at this time of the year.
Mr Trudgill explained, as winter approaches, wet and icy road conditions can increase the likelihood of being involved in a collision.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has advised now is the ideal time of year for motorists to give their vehicles a full service.
It is also suggested drivers check lights are clean and in good working order before setting out on a journey.
