Classic car enthusiasts could be happy to learn that this year's Silverstone Classic will feature an array of vehicles from BMW, as the manufacturer celebrates the 60th anniversary of its Z range.
The event will see a display of the manufacturer's Z1, Z3, Z4 and Z8 sportscars, with the cars taking part in a parade lap of the circuit in front of tens of thousands of spectators.
"We wanted to do something spectacular to mark our anniversary and staging the UK's first Z-Fest at the world's biggest classic racing festival certainly fits that bill," said Steve Miller, general manager of the BMW Car Club (GB).
"A number of hugely successful Z-Fests have been held on the continent and in the States - now it’s our turn."
The first Z1 roadster will be one of the vehicles taking to the track on the day - with the Silverstone Classic itself running from July 20th to 22nd - and this is all the more impressive as just 8,000 of the vehicles were ever produced.
It was superseded by the popular Z3 and Z4 brands and these too will be on show, while the Z8 - capable of achieving 180 mph - will also be an attraction for visitors on the day.
Furthermore, more than 120 classic car clubs will be in attendance at this year's showpiece, meaning fans of all forms of classic sportscar will be in for a treat if they decide to head along.
Another organisation will also be celebrating an important milestone at the event in 2012, with the MGB brand announcing a special showcase of what is arguably one of the UK's most-loved sports car manufacturers.
The firm is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and as a result, the MG Car Club is putting on a special display for visitors highlighting the firm's heritage and achievements over the last half century.
