Some holidaymakers are ignoring risks buy not taking out buildings and contents insurance on their second homes, an expert has said.
Zurich has said around ten per cent of people with holiday homes are not insured while 11 per cent of holiday home owners are unsure if their cover is sufficient.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), commenting on the findings, said owners worried about price should research specialist policies.
"The cover is there and is actually fairly reasonably priced," said Graeme Trudgill, Biba's technical and corporate affairs executive.
"If you do get bad weather or any kind of incident then it could be extremely complicated and expensive to try and [put it right]," he said.
Mr Trudgill also highlighted the estimated five to ten per cent of motorists who are risking expense by not having car or van insurance.
