Prospective business insurance holders who are unsure about which environmentally-friendly vehicle to consider may do well to opt for a motor from Fiat or Toyota.
According to Clean Green Cars, both manufacturers have managed to dip under the EU target of 130 grams of carbon emitted per kilometre travelled.
The website's Jay Nagley noted that a number of other manufacturers cut their carbon emissions in 2009, including Hyundai, Ford and Mini.
He pointed out that this could have been influenced by the scrappage scheme incentives, which may have encouraged buyers to opt for smaller vehicles.
In 2010, he noted, manufacturers will need to make further improvements to car performance to see CO2 levels reduced further.
Toyota recently launched a new hybrid concept at the North American Auto Show, the FT-CH, which may appeal to businesses.
The manufacturer asserted that it intends to sell a million hybrid vehicles per year in the early 2010s.
