Business insurance news: Electric cars could become cheaper

Those on the lookout for corporate car finance might want to consider investing in an electric car, after one organisation welcomed news that the government will subsidise such purchases.

Responding to the fact that the state will put up to £5,000 towards the cost of buying an emissions-free motor, David Martell, chief executive at the Electric Car Corporation (ECC), suggested it is a positive move.

He said that the decision is a welcome step towards "stimulating the electric car market".

Mr Martell added: "It is undoubtedly the only way UK motorists will be persuaded to change their motoring habits and give up their petrol cars."

The ECC produces Citroen's C1 ev'ie, a four-seat all electric car.

Business insurance seekers may also be interested to learn that the model has a range of between 60 and 70 miles, not to mention a top speed of about 60 miles per hour.

It can be fully charged in six to seven hours using a domestic 13 amp socket.Copyright Performance Direct News
